ABOUT US
Our reputation
is built on honesty and integrity over a period of more than 20
years. We are now placing the second and third generation of
puppies with owners who have had our lines previously. In the
first year of its life, we guarantee each puppy will be
genetically healthy and not become disabled from any genetic
defect. We also guarantee every puppy will have a suitable
temperament to become a good pet. Both are replacement
guarantees. Any dog we have bred may be returned to us, no
reason required, at any time. In the early '80s, we culled all
the lines from our breeding stock that historically produced any
genetic diseases such as dysplasia, esophagus problems,
allergies, eye problems and heart problems. With healthy stock,
we have produced a virtually disease free and completely healthy
line of offspring that feel good and are ready to show at any
time. The pet owner reaps the rewards of these high quality
genetic traits in their adoption of one of our puppies. Another
consideration is the beauty of the pet. In the past 20 years we
have bred and shown over 75 AKC Champions, proof of the quality
and beauty of our stock.
Dick chaired
the committee to write a Code of Ethics for the Airedale Terrier
Club of America, and Lone Star Airedale Terrier Club of D/FW,
www.lsatc.com. We were one of three people who founded the
Lone Star Airedale Club and both Glenna and Dick have served on
the board and in various offices of Airedale Terrier Club of
America, Lone Star Airedale Terrier Club Faith City Kennel Club
(www.faithcitykennelclub.org),
and American Dog Owners Association (www.adoa.org).
Dick has served as Director, Secretary and Vice President of
American Dog Owners Association. Glenna is currently Treasurer
of Southwest Airedale Terrier group and Faith City Kennel Club.
Dick has judged National Sweepstakes in both Airedale Terrier
Club of America and Welsh Terrier Club of America Specialty
shows.
We have
mentored many of the people who are now competing on a national
level in Airedale and Welsh Terrier competition. We were
fortunate to be in on the early times of their showing and
congratulate Joan Clarke (Penaire), David and Laura Post
(Texter), Kim Ward (Cornerstone), and countless others who have
gone on to become highly respected competitors on their own. We
have won Best of Breed at many prestigious shows such as
Westminster Kennel Club, and have won several Best in Show
awards in the past few years. Our dogs have been ranked #1 in
the nation on several occasions and we were Breeders of the Year
3 times in the Welsh Terrier Club of America. Ch. Briggsdale
Gold Eagle is sire of the first AKC Welsh Terrier Agility
Champion. More than 75 of our Airedales and Welsh Terriers have
been awarded AKC Championship titles and many of them have
received AKC obedience titles.
When you
consider our breeding practices, our long-term guarantees and
our integrity at BRIGGSDALE, you may be assured that you will
receive the best possible quality in health and temperament in
any puppy you get from us. You may also depend on us to assist
in any way reasonable for the lifetime of the dog. We raised the
bar by placing our ethical and breeding guarantees in writing
and on our pedigree form driving others to follow our lead.
We are very
interested in producing a Welsh Terrier with the same
personality and temperament as our Airedales. So far, we have
made a good amount of progress, but with some limits. The
Welshes are still more territorial, more active, quicker to
learn both good and bad habits, more apt to be intensely
interested in any activity, more alert to noises and movement.
They are the first to notice a strange car in our driveway and
are at the door before the Airedale gets to its feet and out of
the middle of the floor. Welsh Terriers make just as good a pet
but they take a couple of months longer to reach a sort of
mature household pet temperament that we like to see in both the
Airedale and Welsh. The Welsh is also generally tougher, with a
defensive nature when other animals try to intimidate them and
do not take well to training in which a trainer or groomer uses
force or pain to try to get the dog to react favorably. An
Airedale can be talked to and he will just hurt like he has been
beat, but a Welsh will let you talk to him and he will just
dance around 6 inches from your fingertips until you give up on
him and sit down. Then he will come and jump in your lap to get
you over being so grumpy. They are sometimes too smart for some
people who never catch on to the dog's ability to get the owner
to do what the dog wants.
You may reset assured that we
will provide you with a puppy or adult that will be suitable for
your lifestyle. We will be here to help in any way possible to
make your adoption and ownership a pleasant and rewarding
experience. Feel free to call or e-mail if you have any
concerns or unanswered questions.
